In 2023, Connecting Threads brought Mark Zygadlo's incredible WaterOrgan to the River Tweed.
Created by artist Mark Zygadlo in collaboration with sound engineer Jamie Greer, the WaterOrgan is a floating sound installation and kinetic sculpture. Part catamaran, part church organ, the WaterOrgan generates live music determined by the flow of the river, translating the state of the water into playful sound.
In the summer of 2023 Connecting Threads brought the WaterOrgan to communities along the Tweed accompanied by additional activities such as river organism identificiation, flag making, canoeing, improvisational musical performance and a village BBQ.
Mark Zygadlo is an artist and writer living in rural Dumfries & Galloway. His recent kinetic works include WhiteMill and WaterOrgan, machines which engage with the natural elements. In Summer 2023 he brought the WaterOrgan to four locations along the Tweed, starting in Peebles before visiting Kelso, Norham and Paxton House.
